About

AC Reference

This is a collection of sortable and filterable tables with the intention of giving quick and easy access to information during Ancient Cave speedrun attempts, as well as provide a database of numbers and mechanics in the game.

As such, it doesn't have any strategic advice. Especially if you're just starting out playing, you want to check the Ancient Cave Guide, which includes advice and a ton of other information, strats, and links to resources.

The above table is a display of minimum values characters are guaranteed to have at the respective level, and only in the Ancient Cave (stats for the main story are lower). Actual numbers might be higher due to random stat increases on level ups, or stat potions.

The ATP and DFP values don't increase directly, but are composed of other attributes - ATP is equal to STR, DFP is STR * 0.5 + AGL * 0.5

The first enemy in any encounter group always appears, the other enemies are chosen randomly from the entire set.

The amount of enemies in an encounter depends on the party size. If only Maxim is in the party, no more than two monsters will appear at any time.

Patterns

Each pattern consists of a list of encounter sprites, as well as an ordered list of logic used for each movement. These are executed top-to-bottom, where the left column has conditions and the right side instructions to be executed if the condition is met. If the instructions include multiple parts, they will be executed in order, and until an instruction is completed, conditions won't be checked again. When not stated otherwise, direction of movement is chosen at random.

Italicized phrases are modes, such as Active, which are enabled through instructions when mentioned, and disabled when mentioned with a strike-through rendering.

Proximity means distance in tiles from the enemy. An entity directly adjacent to an enemy has a Proximity of 1. X-Proximity means that only the horizontal distance is taken into account, as Y-Proximity means only vertical.

Passability checks for directions the Player could move to (empty floor tiles, doorways, and healing tiles are considered passable), but the enemy might still not move there due to i.e. not being able to move into doorways.

Providence

Providence appears with a chance of Floor / 60, which maxes out at 98.33% at Floor 59. Once found, it will not appear in a chest again until re-entering the cave. source

If Providence or an Iris treasure is generated for a floor, they overwrite any other content in that chest.

You will always receive Providence after the Jelly fight, whether you dropped, fed, or never found it; or whether you won or lost the fight.

In order to attain M-Form of any capsule, the capsule has to be fed to one level higher than the required feeding form (or 4, whichever is lower), then must be changed back to the form stated in the M-Fruit Form column, then must be fed the fruit. Feeding the capsule's M-Form fruit again restores the capsule's original forms.
